History

1999:
Sven Olek, Founder and CEO of Epiontis, co-authors the patent for DNA methylation technology that forms the basis of the intellectual property of Epiontis.

1999 to 2003:
The DNA methylation technology was further developed by Epigenomics AG and applied in the field of cancer diagnostics and pharmacogenomics.

03/2003:
Epiontis was founded by its management team as a spin-off from Epigenomics AG. Exclusive rights to the DNA methylation technology in the field of Regenerative Medicine, i.e. tissue engineering and cell therapy, were granted to Epiontis.

10/2005 to 06/2007:
Epiontis successfully completed a collaboration with Genzyme Corp. for the development of a methylation fingerprint-based assay for the quality control process of Carticel, an autologous chondrocyte cell therapy product.

09/2007:
Epiontis publishes results describing the development of the EpiTest Treg assay, a novel tool to measure suppressive immune cells with fields of use in cancer, autoimmune diseases, and immunotherapy.

12/2008:
Epiontis was awarded a business innovation grant by Zukunftsfonds Berlin for 2.1 mio Euro over a period of three years, which will be used to broaden Epiontis' development pipeline in collaboration with the Charite Clinic in Berlin.

01/2009
Epiontis publishes a key paper further describing the EpiTest Treg assay and outlining the use of the assay in several indications.
